Strader’s Microsite
For this project I was paired up with two other designers, Ryn Forquer, and Anya Schmidt, to create a microsite for Strader’s Garden Centers. Our target audience was 20-something apartment dwellers who don’t have an outdoor gardening space.
Our approach was to create a quiz-centered microsite to educate users about plant-parenthood. The homepage was completed with a section informing users about the benefits that come from having houseplants, and we even included a 404 page in case something goes wrong.
We believed this approach would help those who are skeptical about their plant caring abilities, become more comfortable about the idea of buying their very own houseplant. By using funky window shapes and other homey elements we gave the user an idea of what their unique apartment could gain from a couple plants.
Design Assets and Collateral
We didn’t want to stop with just the website, so we created three pieces to draw users to the site, or remind them of their experience with the quiz.
First I created a set of care cards that detail the requirements for each houseplant from Strader’s. These cards would drive users to the website through a QR code on the back with a call to action on how to use it. Next Ryn designed an Instagram story ad that would allow users to visit the site in a simple swipe. Last Anya created a set of stickers that you could receive with a plant purchase to remind you of your experience.
